Training -

We will be putting on coaching prior to the event on Saturday, from about 10.15 to 11.25.  All those taking part in the coaching will then be able to take part in the score event taking place from the same car park.

The exercises will cover basic skills, such as understanding the map, contours and compass work.  It will be suitable for everyone from complete beginners to those looking to gain confidence visiting controls away from paths.   Should be fun.

Meet in the same car park as the local event at 10.15. No charge for the coaching, but there is a fee for the local event.

Look forward to seeing you

Update 11/12/17:

Hopefully the weather will be good and the snow will clear.  If the event needs to be cancelled, a notice will be posted here Friday evening.

Please be prepared for poor weather, please bring a cagoule to wear should it be bad weather.  Please wear suitable clothing and footwear and carry a whistle.

Advised route in, especially if poor weather,  is off the roundabout on the A4119 at Coedely.  From the M4 J34, go north on the A4119, past the shopping centre, the hospital and past the South Wales Fire and Rescue offices.  At the roundabout with the caravan sales store, as the road heads up the valley, turn left.  It will be signposted from here.

Please note that there has been some recent felling in the area and some new access tracks.  These felled areas and tracks are marked on the map, but the control sites generally avoid these areas.

Please note too that in places there are small mountain bike tracks.  The generally are not marked on the map.  This should be OK as the routes generally avoid these areas, but careful map (contour) reading will of course help you avoid any confusion!

For the event, there are 30 controls, each with a score of 20 points.  Penalties will be applied for late returns after 60 mins, likely to be:

- 1-5 mins late, 4 points per min

- 6-10 mins late, 6 points per min

- More than 10 mins late, 8 points per min
