Margam Forest North



Travel: If possible approach from Maesteg. If you approach Bryn from the west take great care turning right off the main road at Bryn.

For most people they should go to J36 on the M4 (Sarn Services) and then follow the A4063 to Maesteg. Continue to the crossroads with traffic lights in the centre of Maesteg (King Alfred pub and Bowrington Arcade) and turn uphill on the B4282. Follow this to Bryn and turn left at the Royal Oak pub. Continue straight up this road until you reach the forest entrance.

Parking: Parking is on forest roads and is limited so please share cars wherever possible. Follow the directions of the marshals so that you are parked as quickly and closely as possible. Cars may be turned before parking. Do not park before you are directed to do so. Please take care when passing people walking to the assembly area.

A punching start will be used.

There will be 2 starts each are approximately 700m gently uphill from the parking, allow 10 mins. Both starts initially use the same forest road before splitting after 400m.

Start1: – Yellow, Orange, Lt Green & Short Green.

Start2: – Green, Blue & Brown.

Finish: will be adjacent to registration.

Arena: Toilets, and enquiries etc are adjacent to the Finish.

Map: The map is at 1:10000 scale, surveyed and drawn in 2016 by Dave Peel and based on a LIDAR survey. It will be will be printed on A3 waterproof paper.  Descriptions will be printed on the front of the map (in text for Yellow and Orange courses, pictorial for the others) and will also be available at the start.

Terrain: This is a varied forest with some dense coniferous as well as spaced deciduous woods. Running is generally better than you may expect but there are many steep slopes.


Yellow, Orange, Light Green, Short Green, Green, Blue, Brown.

Approx Course Lengths

Yellow  2.8km, 85m climb.
Orange  3km, 110m climb.
Light Green  3.3km, 120m climb.
Short Green  2.7km, 130m climb.
Green  5.1km, 140m climb.
Blue  6.2km, 230m climb.
Brown  7.8km, 280m climb.


All competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety. ‘No whistle, no go’ will be in force for all Juniors and recommended for Seniors.

Competitors to wear suitable footwear. Waterproof outer layer to be worn if poor weather conditions.

Entry Seniors: £ 9.00 (plus 2:00 non BOF members)

Juniors: £ 5.00 (plus 1:00 non BOF members)

SI Hire £1, juniors free

Lost SI Card fee £30.00
