Sugar Loaf local Event 10 February 2018

 

 

SWOC invites all orienteers to a Local (level D) event on the side of Sugar Loaf Mountain, nr Abergavenny on 10 February 2018. This event will form part of the SWOC league 2018. Suitable for all standards including novices.

 

Car Parking. We will use the National Trust car park, map reference SO 268167, nearest post code NP7 7LA.

 

Terrain and location – The courses will primarily be in the gorgeous old oak wood of St Mary’s Vale, with longer courses venturing onto the open moorland of the Sugar Loaf. There are some steep slopes but courses will be planned to avoid the steepest. Most of the area will be very runnable in Feruary.

 

Map Scale of 1:10,000 (one cm = 100m). The map was prepared in 2016 for the welsh championship. Will be printed on waterproof paper.

 

Courses

 

Blue – technically difficult and long - 5km ish

Green - technically difficult and a bit shorter- 3.5km ish

Orange – includes controls just off paths 3km ish

Yellow – all on paths 2km ish

 

Course lengths will be post up once planning has been finalised.

 

Timing

Registration and starts from 11.00 to 12.00.

Courses close at 1.30.

SI (dibber) hire £1 senior, junior free

 

 

Training

 

There will be some basic training for novices and new comers from about 10.30.  All those taking part in the training will then be able to run one of the courses in the local event
