SCOTTISH 6 DAY 2005 |
---|
Accommodation is apparently already difficult to find for next year's Scottish 6 Days. Kevin Bush and Jane Ritchie have found two self catering units sleeping 6 and 4 respectively, but have not yet booked either. If anyone is interested in sharing either of these units with Kevin and Jane please contact Jane as soon as possible either by email to jane.a.ritchie@virgin.net or by phone on 029 2072 6787. |

Kate Balmond organised a very successful informal event at
Pontypool Park in March. The Guides who came were particularly
enthusiastic trying several courses. Several of our newer Family members
were there and it was good to see them again the following weekend at the
Cwm Lickey event. Congratulations to Kate for gaining her Coaching Certificate |
Portugese 4 Days, Evora, February 2004 |
---|
We in Britain have a lot to be thankful for when it comes to hosting
international events – as English is an official IOF language we can
simply produce an English programme and have no problems with overseas
translations. If you host a World Ranking Event in any other country you
are expected to produce an English translation of your programme. Over the
years I have enjoyed the sometimes quaint English translations that have
greeted me at overseas events, but have been very thankful to have them.
How could I manage in Poland, Czech, Slovakia or Hungary for instance
without them? My most recent foray overseas to Portugal, left me thankful that I didn’t have to translate the Croeso programme into Portuguese. I especially liked the Municipal Speaker of the house of Evora thanking “the Deficient ones of the Armed Forces” in his welcoming address. The travel direction took some following. “From Evora, to follow to Beja/Reguengos do Monsaraz (National 18), capsizing for Reguengos de Monsaraz/Espana (National 256), existing to break of this crossing signalling plates. By the time you get to the event the terrain descriptions become a challenge. “Terrain of mounted of sobreiro and azinheira wavy and in general clean of easy race”. No problem once you realise sobreiro and azinheira are names of vegetation. By day three I was seriously getting the hang of it and had no problem translating “Terrain the mounted and olivel of with some rocky details some you surround” as meaning hilly ground with olive groves, rock features and walls. I can recommend Portugal. The competitions were well organised, there was a very good international field, and we all had a super T shirt at the end of day 4. This last day was a town race round the cobbled streets of Reuengos de Monsataz, great fun and the sort of thing we could never get permission to put on here. |
WELSH-NORWEGIAN THINGS |
---|
Two clubs in Bergen (Gular and Fana) have been negotiating dates with
me because of the clash with the Scottish 6-day at the end of July 2005.
My contact Bjarte has suggested that we go in the last 10 days of August 2005, to take part in the local championships for the region: the Hordalan-Mesterskapet, and the following weekend for the west of Norway: the Vestlands Mesterskapet. These dates also fit with the Welsh school holidays. The latter point is important as I have been in touch with Kate Balmond and the Welsh Junior Squad to extend the catchment as it were. This is also the case with the Norwegians, Bjarte can get extra funding if they bring a contingent of 13 - 16 year olds, as well as older club members. Which leads to the other point, the Norwegian school holidays around Easter 2005. It appears that it works better for all if they come the week before Easter ( that is the last weekend in March next year), and then travel to Cannock from Cardiff on their way home. So far we are intending to use a farm cottages complex between Miskin and Cowbridge for accommodation: the website is: www.valeholidayhomes.co.uk If anyone has any other or better ideas for hosting @ 30 Norwegian O-guests please let me know asap. See you soon? Mike Down (mikedown@mikedown.plus.com) Please contact Mike if you are interested in joining the trip to Norway. |

For information only, I have two extra columns showing the total number of
events each competitor has completed and the average number of points they
gained at these events. However the ranking list is still ordered on the best 10
results.
Please let me have details of any missing results
