To a brilliant collection of Swocies

Hi there, will you all give yourself a big pat on the back for doing such a grand job at our National Event. We will have made a decent profit for SWOC, I will send out a balance sheet later.
I have only just got around to saying thank you to you all for your input on the 28th, we really did establish that SWOC could put on a successful big event. This was only made possible by all of you putting in extra time and effort, before, during and after the event. So as the event organiser I thank you all.
A few mentions-
Pete Morfey and son came up on the Friday evening to set up the string course, so that it would all be in place for the day. However, they were both struck down by a D & V bug overnight and so Laure held the fort solo on the day. I only knew about this at 5pm when she had cleared away. What a star.
Thanks to the Prossers for roping in their visiting orienteering friends to help.
Thanks to all of you for filling in where suddenly necessary - without any complaints or whinging.
Thanks to the kids- they all took part in our big day and helped make it a success.
To those of you who were also competing in the VHI, thank you for coping.
Now , it is impossible for me to single out everybody's contribution but a special mention should go to those who spent hours of unpaid work in producing the map, planning the courses, dealing with the entries and the equipment.
Last of all to everybody for putting up with me, life has almost returned to “normal”.

COMMITTEE NEWS

EDITORIAL

Thank you to everyone who helped make the National Event run so smoothly. Comments so far have been very complimentary.

WANTED URGENTLY

Once again the Club is looking for volunteers to become more active in its organization. As we have so few members it is important that the load is shared and that same people don’t get left doing everything .

Positions Vacant
Club Treasurer

To take over from Rebecca.

Equipment Officer

You don’t have to do much, just have some spare space for the club gear (a shed or 1/4 of a garage is enough).

Chairperson & Fixtures Secretary (2 posts)

Committee meetings are held monthly and last about 2 hours. The next meeting is on Wed 6th Nov at Niall’s house.
Having recovered from the effects of organising the National Event Club members now have two more challenges to face in the next few weeks. The first is the Annual General meeting. This is your chance to air your views on how the Club is run and to suggest types of events /training that you would like to see in the calendar. Please make every effort to attend and make your views known. The second challenge is the final of the Compass Sport Trophy will we be able to win the trophy again this year????

DYFFRYN GARDENS OPEN DAY

Compass Sport Trophy

The Club managed to have a presence at this event due to a small band of volunteers. Using the new map Pete Colbert had set out an easy course through the Arboretum which was enjoyed by several family groups. Although interest was not particularly great at least one new member was recruited. The re-arranged Compass Sport Cup final will take place on 10th Nov at the HOC Badge event at Titterstone near Ludlow. The area is fast runnable moorland with some detailed quarry workings. Please contact John Mills if you are available to run.
